Johnson, son of James and Margaret Johnson, was born in Hawkins county, Tennessee, Dec 20, 1836, and passed from this life Sept., 2, 1930, aged 93 years, eight months and 12 days. Five preceded him in death and those who survive are his widow; Franklin of the state of Washington; Annie Belle Lewis of Humphreys; Minnie May Darrow of White Bear, Canada; Charles F. of Osgood,Mo.; Roy of the state of California; Bertha May of Green City, Mo., and Edwin of Humphreys, Mo. He also leaves 28 grandchildren and 17 great great [sic] grand children, four sister and one brother. He left the state of Tennessee at the age of 18 years and came to Missouri, settling in Sullivan county, where he made his home and reared his family. He was a resident of Humphreys at the time of his death. He was a soldier and served hisnation in the war between the states. When a young man he was converted and became a member of the Methodist church. The last twenty-seven years of his life he had been afflicted and for twenty years he was blind. August 16th he fell and broke his hip and all that loving handcould do was done to alleviate his suffering, being taken to the Cullers hospital at Trenton, where he passed to his reward. I know not what the future hath, Of marvel or surprise; I only know that life and death His mercy underlies, And if myheart and flesh be weak To bear the untried pain, A bruised reed He will not break, But strengthen and sustain.Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Young of Edina, Mo., a former pastor, and Rev. G. W. Ridley, the pastor in charge of the Camp Ground church, Sept. 3 at 2:30 o'clock and interment was made in the cemetery near the church.Eliakim Johnson Obit - Milan Standard - 9/4/1930Transcribed by Brian Sanders 10/14/2009E.
