    Obituary  Landon Carter Johnson Obit - The Harris Herald - Jan 18, 1934 Transcribed by Brian Sanders 10/14/2009Carter JohnsonLandon Carter Johnson son of James and Margaret Johnson was born in Tennessee in 1849 and passed away at the home of his son Floyd Johnson five miles northeast of Osgood at 12:45 Sunday afternoon Jan. 14, 1934, being at the time of this death 84years of age.The deceased had been in failing health for several years, although the past three months he had been feeling exceptionally well. Sunday morning, however, he complained of being weak, and did not feel like he wanted to leave his bed. Hegradually grew weaker until the end came.He was a member of the Protestant Methodist church, formerly belonged to the I.O.O.F. and A F. & A.M. lodges, but was not a member of either when he passed away. Mrs. Johnson died five year ago last August and since that time Mr. Johnson hasmade his home with his son Floyd Johnson and family.He was united in marriage to Miss Nettie Williams and to this union five children were born; Lafe Johnson of Roberson, Idaho; Elmer Johnson of Ottumwa, Iowa; Baley Johnson who died 1900; Norton Johnson of Waynoka, Oklahoma and Mrs. Della Seamanof Waynoka, Okla. Mrs. Johnson died in 1880. He was united in marriage to Miss Lura Ellen Shipley. To this union eight children were born; Mrs. Bessie Ross of Harris, Mo. , Mrs. Sadie McClaskey of Green City Mo., Mrs. Maggie McNabb ofSpickard, Mo., Mrs. Nettie May of Harris, Mo., Mrs. Anna May of Osgood, Mo., Frank Johnson of Osgood, Mo., Floyd Johnson of Osgood, Mo., and Miss Gladys Ruth Johnson who died in 1914. He is also survived by three sisters Mrs. Anna Doolin ofOsgood, Mo., Mrs. Mary Willis of Walters, Okla. and Mrs. Martha Ozmun of Lawton, Okla.Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J.E. Todd and burial was at the Camp Ground cemetery.  [13

    Notes 
    • The home where Landon Carter raised his family was still standing in 2003 and was in pretty good shape. Ray Johnson said that they called Landon 'Cart', and that Landon was a mild, gentle and a meek man. He was about six feet tall. He loved hischildren. When he drove his cattle to Kansas City to be sold, he would go and buy gifts for all the family. The community building east of Osgood in Sullivan County at Campground Cemetery has been a school house and a church. in the Civil Warit was destroyed, and Landon Carter Johnson helped furnish some of the material to rebuild it.Member of I.O.O.F. and A F. & A.M. lodges.
