    Biography  Ashley Booth is a native of Freetown, Massachusetts, and was born in 1806. in 1809 his parents moved to Chenango county, New York, and in 1830 to Cattaraugus county, in the same State. in 1835 Mr. Booth came to Whiteside county, and first made aclaim near the present village of Portland, and in 1837 brought his family to his new home, living for a time in a rail cabin cov-ered with boughs of trees. He lived at various places until 1844, when he opened a farm at Woodward's bluff, and hasresided there since, except a couple of years spent at the Pike's Peak gold diggings. Mr. Booth married Miss Mary Foy in 1830, and after her death, which occurred in 1872, married Mrs. Fanny Winters. He has only one child, William, who marriedMiss Adliza Hurd, and is a farmer near Woodward's bluff.Bent & Wilson History of Whiteside County 
    Obituary  ASHLEY BOOTH - The subject of this brief sketch was born in Freetown, Massachusetts 17 Jan. 1806, and died in Portland, Whiteside Colorado., Ill. on August 22, 1885, aged 79 years and seven months. His parents moved to New York State where heresided with them until 1836. in 1833 Mr. Booth came to Illinois, first making a claim near where the village of Portland is now located, and in 1837 brought his family to his new home, living for a time in a rail cabin covered with boughs oftrees. in 1844 he owned a farm at Woodward's Bluff in Prophetstown township, upon which he resided until 1878, a period of 34 years except for a couple years which he spent in the Pike's Peak gold diggings. Since 1878 he has been a resident ofPortland.He was twice married, in 1830 to Miss Mary Foy, who died in 1872, and subsequently to Mrs. Fanny Winters, who still survives him.He was a spiritualist in belief and died firm to the knowledge of that principle, being ready and willing to join the loved ones gone before, and who were manifest around him. Short services over the remains were held at the residence of thedeceased, after which they were taken to the Leon Cemetery for interment. Rev. A. B.
